Completed
Project
Solid Waste Management Initiative
Project completed: 2022
Location: Kinawataka, Kasokoso, and Banda settlements.
The project was about identifying three women groups engaged in waste collection, sorting, and recycling. The waste consisted of plastic bottles, organic waste, and polythene bags. We completed the project to collect information concerning the rapidly rising amounts of waste in our community, to find solutions on how to control this factor affecting our environment, to identify the group’s challenges, and to develop a way forward on how to support them.
We worked together with our partners, identified the groups, and carried out data collection. Next, we did the monitoring and evaluation, and provided the groups with the necessary support needed. This included different hygiene gear to assist them in sorting waste and workshops in financial management, waste management, and handling.
Results and Outcomes:
– Improved awareness around waste sorting and recycling to improve waste management skills.
– promoted environmental safety and health.
– helped to protect these group members’ safety and health while carrying out their daily work, through the provision of safety gear.
